UPDATE: Teen Shot Dead In Rancho Cordova Identified

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – Detectives are searching for the suspects who shot and killed a teenage boy in Rancho Cordova on Tuesday night, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The Sacramento County Coroner's website identifies the victim as 19-year-old Jorden Benedict of Rancho Cordova.

Deputies were called for reports of a shooting at Campana Way and Biscay Way around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The first deputy on scene found Benedict lying on the street. He had been shot once in the upper body.

The teen was transported to the hospital but he later was pronounced dead.

A witness told deputies he heard a gunshot and saw a vehicle speeding away and found the teenager on the ground.

"A homicide in this area? Not too often. We don't get many, it's definitely out of the norm," Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos,

Deputies have little information on the shooting other than a dark-colored vehicle was seen leaving the area immediately after the shooting.
