UPDATE: Tornado Touches Down Near Stockton; Thunderstorms Developing

LATHROP (CBS13) - A funnel cloud was spotted near Lathrop on Wednesday afternoon and a tornado touched down southwest of Stockton, according to the National Weather Service.

The funnel cloud was already dissipating shortly after it was spotted around 12:30 p.m., but not before a tornado touched down on West Howard Road.

The weather system passing through Northern California will bring snow showers to the mountains and a continued threat of thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to winter storm warning from the NWS.

A line of thunderstorms has developed over the Sacramento area. The line of storms will be moving to the northeast at 20 mph and are capable of producing small hail, downpours and dangerous lightning. The storms will be affecting eastern Sacramento county from 2:30 to about 3 p.m., according to the NWS.

"We're getting lots of small thunderstorms developing," the National Weather Service's George Cline said. "It should start subsiding by sunset."

Rain is expected to pick back up again on Thursday and Friday but clear by the weekend. The temperature could hit 70 again in Sacramento by Sunday.
