Abduction May Have Stemmed From Disagreement

ATASCADERO (CBS13) -- An Amber Alert has been issued for a 4-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted from a homeless shelter in Atascadero in San Luis Obisbo County Friday morning.

The victim is Jeremy Lee-Logan Guthrie. He is described as 3'5", 33 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a camouflage t-shirt, blue underwear and carrying a Spider-man blanket.

Jeremy's alleged abductor is 53-year-old Annette Hale. She is a Hispanic female, 5'4", 200 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. She wore her hair up in a bun. She was last seen wearing a white tank top.

Hale took Guthrie from the Echo Shelter, which is located at a church, at 4:30 a.m. and left on foot, say police. Sheriff's deputies, police and FBI agents are engaged in the search, which has involved a "macro search" of Atascadero. In addition, 106 volunteers are looking for the boy.

Police say they were notified of the abduction at 6 a.m.

Police say the abduction may have stemmed from a disagreement that occurred between Hale and the boy's mother on Thursday night. A witness told them he heard the boy say something that sounded like "I don't want to go".

Hale is a long-time resident of the area, and is known to squat in vacant homes, telling neighbors that she rents or owns the homes. She also has ties to Sacramento, Santa Barbara and San Francisco. She has a criminal record, but the violations were "petty crimes" major, say police.

Hale has estranged children living the Sacramento area, according to San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department spokesman Rob Bryn.

Hale has no blood relation to Guthrie.

Police are looking into why it took so long for them to be called after the boy was taken.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect or victim is asked to call a special tip line which is 805-543-2444.
