Boy, 14, Riding Bike Badly Injured In Rancho Cordova Accident

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - He just tried to cross the street, but now a pile of the boy's clothing and a pickup truck are at the center of a potential crime scene.

The 14-year-old's bike was propped up on the corner steps from Cordova High School on Tuesday after witnesses told police the driver of a Dodge Ram truck blew right through the stop sign on Chase Drive.

"There's no skid marks, no brake marks," said Deputy Jason Ramos with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The driver was given a field sobriety test at the scene.

Sue Blount has lived in the house on the corner on and off since she was a toddler. She knows just how dangerous this intersection can be.

"All the time," she said when asked if drivers run the stop sign.

Other neighbors told the same story, saying drivers don't pay attention or just don't care about stopping at an intersection that seems to be a magnet for car crashes.

"Well, we had a car go through and hit the gas line on that house over there," Sue said of another incident.

This time it's not property, it's a 14-year-old boy with what could be life-threatening injuries.
"He's at the hospital," Ramos said Tuesday afternoon. "He's in surgery right now. He's alert from what I hear."

Investigators say the boy was unconscious when taken from the scene, but was awake and alert before being taken into surgery.
