Body Found In Burning SUV On Dead-End Road In Rocklin
ROCKLIN (CBS13) – Police are investigating a suspicious car fire in which a man's dead body was found inside.
At about 10:41 a.m. Tuesday, 911 dispatchers received a call that a Mercedes SUV was on fire near the intersection of West Oaks Boulevard and Lonetree Boulevard in Rocklin. After firefighters put the fire out, they found the body in the driver's seat that was burned beyond recognition.
Several people witnessed the blaze but said the fire was too far involved to do anything.
"It looked like people were trying to go see if there was anything they could do, but it was just so much smoke and so much fire," witness Becka Phillips said.
Police say they are ruling out an accident because of the location of the car, a dead end, and the fact that the car didn't appear to have been in an crash.
"Everything is a suspicious death until we can prove otherwise," Rocklin police Lt. Lon Milka said. "As of now we have no missing persons reports whatsoever."
The coroner will need to use dental records to make an identification. The SUV was registered to a person who lives near the scene, according to police.
"It just freaks me out," said Mackenzie Crouse, who works nearby. "Hopefully, they figure out what happened."
