Body Discovery On 34th Street: Man Who Lived Next Door Charged With Murder
RIO LINDA (CBS13) — Sacramento detectives say they finally got a break in a case with the discovery of bones in a Rio Linda backyard.
Rosa Renkert showed us the spot on her family's land where deputies dug up a body likely hidden for months.
"The investigator called me wanting permission to come onto the property," said Renkert. "I think it's pretty sad"
It was Tuesday when investigators say they received a confidential tip.
"It was fairly detailed, with respect to not only a body being buried there, but also a person who was responsible," said Sgt. Jason Ramos with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
The person allegedly responsible, 34-year-old William Olsen, lives just next door to the land on 34th Street.
After hours of searching with dogs, investigators would indeed find the unidentified person under the dirt -- the victim of foul play.
Olsen is now charged with murder. No one answered the door at his home.
"We're still trying to connect some of the dots as far as a motive and cause of death," said Sgt. Ramos.
Deputies say they are looking to see if the person buried here was a person Olsen knew who was reported missing months ago. But the body was unrecognizable.
"I've never seen a person drive back, up and down a yard in my entire life," said a neighbor.
The neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, said he often saw Olsen driving on the land next door while other neighbors say he nearly hit people on the street.
"He was crazy. He used to drive up and down this road all crazy-like," said a neighbor.
But to hear of a neighbor and a buried body?
"I was completely shocked," said the neighbor.
Olsen turned down our request for an interview.
We spoke with the coroner who says the identity of the victim has not been determined.
Olsen is due in court on Friday.
