Biggs Prepares For Final Causeway Classic As Head Coach At UC Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) - In his last press conference ahead of his last game and his last Causeway Classic as UC Davis' head football coach, Bob Biggs was brought to tears.
A memorable 39 years as an Aggie comes to a close for Biggs on Saturday. CBS13 asked him of his proudest moments and Biggs choked up reflecting on his life devoted to leading young men.
"You have a chance to thank the people who have an impact on your life," he said. "That's to me the greatest gift."
UC Davis hosts Sacramento State in the 59th edition of the annual rivalry game.
"I wish he was playing his last game against someone else; then I'd be rooting for him to win," Sac State coach Marshall Sperbeck said.
Biggs once played for the team he coached for 20 years. He hopes his legacy of kindness in competition lives on
"It's about being part of something bigger than your self, making sacrifices and making commitments and really, genuinely learning to love one another," he said.
Quarterback Randy Wright said he has Biggs to thank not just for his skills but for building his character
"Just a great man to know and he's impacted so many lives," he said.
They hope to send Biggs out on top, but the Aggies find themselves in the rare position of underdog in this Interstate 80 rivalry. UC Davis leads the series 41-18 but is just 3-7 this year. The Hornets are 6-4, including a win over Division I Colorado.
This may be Biggs' final game, but a win by Sac State means playoff potential, so both teams have plenty to play for Saturday.
They will be giving away Bob Biggs bobbleheads and then paying tribute to Biggs during the game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday at Aggie Stadium.
