Big Rig Crashes Near Marysville On Highway 70; All Lanes Back Open
YUBA COUNTY (CBS13) - Highway 70 north of Marysville was closed for parts of the morning and afternoon Friday after a big rig crashed when the driver fell asleep at the wheel, the California Highway Patrol said.
The tractor-trailer driver, Pablo R. Manandeg, 46, of Sacramento, crashed just north of Marysville when his trailer jack-knifed and then tipped over at about 5:19 a.m., according to the CHP. Manandeg over-corrected after the truck drifted onto the right shoulder when he dozed off, the CHP said.
Caltrans reopened the highway at about 10 a.m. and again at about 11:30 for for PG&E to do repairs. The semi truck took out a power pole when it crashed. All lanes were back up shortly after 1 p.m.
The truck was hauling dirty laundry from a Chico hospital that spilled onto the roadway in the crash. Manandeg was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville after sustaining cuts to his arm, hand and head. Drugs or alcholol was not a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
