Best Shows To See On Valentine's Day Weekend 2013 In Sacramento

With Valentine's Day just days away, have you already finalized special plans for your loved one? While dinner, flowers and chocolate might be the traditional norm, consider taking your significant other to one of Sacramento's live performances. There are a few interesting shows and concerts surrounding the Valentine's Day holiday, so why not do something different this year? And for those flying solo this Valentine's Day, there are plenty of opportunities for you and your friends to enjoy a night out sans the romance.

Although it's a bit of a haul, consider heading to Lockeford on Valentine's Day for a dinner show with JOEL, a premier rock and roll Billy Joel cover band. This group performs timeless classics as well as original musical works. This is a full dinner show that includes a menu of Caesar salad, steak Diane, chicken piccata, seasoned vegetables, rice pilaf and chocolate mousse for $70 per couple. JOEL has done a national tour of Billy Joel's Tony award-winning rock musical "Movin' Out" and has had many press appearances on local Sacramento television and radio shows.

Founded in 1997, California-based The Fab Four is the most well-known Beatles tribute band in existence. It has gained a lot of notoriety when performing on a regular basis at Disneyland's Tomorrowland Terrace and from a regular stage show in Las Vegas. The group has toured the world, performing for Beatles fans in countries like Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Japan, Malaysia, France, Hong Kong and more. If you have not yet seen The Fab Four in person and are a fan of The Beatles' music, you definitely need to come out to Crest Theater on February 15th. You won't be disappointed!

Paula Poundstone made her mark back in the late '80s alongside the likes of female comedians like Roseanne Barr, Ellen DeGeneres, Judy Tenuta and Rita Rudner. By the '90s, Poundstone had landed some impressive TV gigs including backstage commentary for the 1993 Emmy Awards, made a memorable appearance at the 1994 Oscar Awards pre and post shows and was a correspondent for "The Tonight Show" during the 1992 Presidential race.

The beloved Christian pop singing duo and real-life partners Jason and deMarco kick off their tour on February 1 and will be making an appearance at Sacramento's Guild Theater on February 16. Their journey of "Celebrating Families of Diversity" will run for 35 days through 22 Southwest and West Coast cities. With an outreach to the LGBT community, Jason and deMarco strive to set an example to others in similar situations. They will be including their entire family on this tour and hope to show others that being a family of diversity is something to embrace. Opening for Jason and deMarco will be San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Bobby Jo Valentine who has received numerous accolades over the past two years. And to help encourage families to come out, kids ages 17 and under are admitted for free.

Are you looking to incorporate the kids into your Valentine's Day weekend plans? Come out to the Sacramento Convention Center for a night of the Sacramento Philharmonic. Currently in its 16th season, the Valentine's Day weekend show features the popular "Family Concert" series. This program includes a local school's essay contest -- "Who is Your Hero? And Why?" The family concert will be conducted by Associate Conductor Kenneth Raskin.
