Sacramento and its surrounding areas offer a good variety of music events that won't cost you a penny. Some of these events come in the form of a full blown concert and others are just a band or two showing up at a designated spot. Regardless of what you are looking for, this list will help guide you to some good times this summer.

While having places like Plymouth, Napa and Sonoma just a short driving distance from Sacramento are certainly perks when you live in Sacramento, it's great to have an upscale tasting room right here in midtown. Revolution offers a variety of quality wines to be tasted along with culinary offerings. The tasting room has also found a way to celebrate Sacramento's Second Saturday Art Walk events by offering live music with free admission. You can enjoy music, food and wine while getting to know artwork created by local Sacramento artists. These shows will take place every second Saturday starting in May.

Anyone who loves music and has attended a college football game (or parade for that matter) will probably tell you, "The marching band was awesome!" College marching bands tend to be passionate and creative with a little bit of drama and choreography mixed in. Generally, great camaraderie and leadership will put on an amazing show. The California Repercussions are no exception. Ranging from 45 to 70 members, they definitely give it their all. They have done gigs in Japan, Munich, England, Russia, Hawaii, South America and various other places around the world. They have been a staple at the "Sacramento Music Festival" (formerly the Jazz Fest or "Jubilee") for many years now. The music fest itself is celebrating its 40th year in Sacramento. As one of the only free musical acts involved, they are a Sacramento Favorite. They will be performing in the streets of Old Sacramento and are a Memorial Day Weekend "must-see".

A hotel bar may not be the venue one may readily consider when looking to lounge around, sip a cocktail and listen to live music, but the Amourath Lounge inside of the Hyatt Regency Sacramento is just that, and it also has personality. In addition to the delightful atmosphere, the lounge has music on Wednesdays through May 29th this year. According to an Amourath employee, there is a strong possibility the Wednesday night free music in the lounge could be extended past the May 29th date. On the 29th of May you can enjoy the music stylings of Ryan Hernandez starting at 5 p.m..

These concerts have been a Sacramento staple for many years and one thing has always remained the same: it's always free. You can enjoy amazing local talent every Friday night all summer long starting at 5 p.m.. There are vendors, food trucks and usually beer gardens available for those enjoying the music. Bands change week to week, so be certain to check the website in order to not miss your favorite bands.

The Davis Food CO-OP sponsors the Farmer's Market in Davis and offers a great line up of bands on Wednesday evenings. This is the perfect venue for those looking for a strong community-oriented family atmosphere. The music is free and the market carries a care free vibe with a small town feel to it. A diverse group of vendors are on site for the public browse through as well. Davis is barely 15 minutes from downtown Sacramento and the Farmer's Market is a nice escape from the everyday grind.
