Best Diners In Sacramento
Breakfast 24 hours a day, hot coffee, and booth seats -- who doesn't love a good diner? Here are Sacramento's best diners.
Dinky Diner
36339 Riverview Drive
Clarksburg, CA 95612
(916) 744-1274
This place is truly a dinky diner. It's a tiny mobile shack that overlooks the Sacramento River, but this Clarksburg joint is legendary in the Delta. Drivers along Riverview Drive have come to expect a friendly wave from the tiny kitchen. The eatery is known for its classic American fare: good burgers and homemade shakes.
Market Club
2630 5th St # 16
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 498-9953
This out-of-the-way diner is nestled among old produce warehouses in Midtown Sacramento. The Market Club has been in business since 1933, so you know they're doing something right. This eatery is truly a greasy spoon, and most of the clientele are old school regulars who come here after a shift on the delivery trucks. What's surprising is that the Market Club is a secret even to long time Sacramento residents who live in the area. Owner Jim Sakata runs the joint, and bought it 12 years ago. His daily specials keep the lunch counter busy, and customers rave about his short ribs.
Bert's Diner
8972 Grant Line Rd
Elk Grove, CA 95624
(916) 686-6622

It's a marriage of music and food that takes you back to a more innocent time. The chrome rounded countertops, the jukebox, the carhops, and while Bert's Diner wasn't built in the 50's, it definitely has the look and feel of one that was. The new owner kept the original theme: A 50's diner with a full line of homemade Mexican fare. So while the burgers and shakes are popular, it's the taco salads and burrito's that make Bert's different.
Nick's Diner
805 Harbor Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95691
(916) 374-8066

It's the American diner: where pop culture meets fast food. Located in West Sacramento, the owner has taken hold of this eatery and transformed it into a music and food lovers treat. Regulars to Nick's Diner love the atmosphere and the generous servings.
Chuck's Hamburgers
6034 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, CA 95207
(209) 473-9977
In Stockton, this is the place that defines 'greasy spoon.' Chuck's has been a favorite on Pacific Avenue since 1960. The same family has been behind the grill the entire time. If you go, you'd better go hungry; Chuck's is famous for big portions. Breakfast is a favorite at the eatery, and is served throughout the day.
Jim Denny's
816 12th St.
Sacramento, CA 95814
(916) 443-9655

One look on the walls of Jim Denny's and you can tell this joint has a history in Sacramento very few restaurants can match. Jim went into the service then opened the present location on 12th street when he got back. He was famous for doing magic tricks with coins and for making pancakes for kids with their initials on them. Even though the restaurant has changed hands a few times, the current owners say they were careful about keeping it the same -- even down to the smallest details.
