Bernie Sanders, Angelique Ashby Fall Short With Sacramento Voters
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Bernie Sanders' recent swing through the Sacramento area wasn't a swing and a miss to his supporters, but he did strike out with local voters who were on the fence.
In Downtown Sacramento Hillary Clinton beat Sanders 60 to 38 percent.
In the Land Park neighborhood, it was an even bigger margin at 71 to 27 percent. The Pocket area also was strong for Clinton at a 64 to 34 percent margin.
One of Sanders' strongest areas was in East Sacramento where voters gave the Vermont senator a 10-point victory.
There wasn't enough in the tank for Sacramento City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby in her fight for Sacramento mayor against former state Senate president Darrell Steinberg. She couldn't gain momentum anywhere outside of the Natomas district she represents.
An early sign that things weren't going well was Steinberg winning in the area around Truxel Road and Arena Boulevard—right in Ashby's backyard. By comparison, Steinberg rolled with a 64-20 advantage in the Capitol Park area, his old stomping grounds.
Land Park came out even stronger, with 73 percent in support of Steinberg.
