Bench Dedicated In Memory Of Fallen Sacramento County Deputy
ORANGEVALE (CBS13) – The community Deputy Danny Oliver spent most of his career protecting came together to honor him on Sunday.
It was a small token of appreciation for a man who gave everything: a blue bench to serve as a reminder of the service Deputy Oliver put into the community.
"It is a point of contact where anybody can sit there and reflect on the life of Danny," said Chaplain Mindi Russell.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Oliver was killed in the line of duty when he was ambushed as he approached a suspicious vehicle in a motel parking lot off Arden Way. The gunman went on to kill Placer County Deputy Michael Davis in a wild, two-county crime spree.
"I can't believe it's almost been a year since they took our team member," said Sacramento County Deputy Chris Guerrero.
The bench stands in front of the Orangevale Community Center, where Oliver worked as a POP officer.
"POP is problem oriented policing, where they would listen to community concerns," said Gary Burns with the Orangevale Community Center.

Deputy Oliver was dedicated to his job and described as a deputy who never turned down a neighborhood meeting.
His bench is painted blue to resemble the "thin blue line" – symbol of the relationship of law enforcement protecting us from criminals.
"May this bench be a place to rest, reflect and remember," Russell said.
Deputy Oliver left behind a wife and two daughters.
