Bay Area Super Bowl Then And Now—31 Years Apart
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS13) — It's a Super Bowl flashback on video. With 2016 San Francisco as its backdrop, highlights shown at a Super Bowl 50 kiosk gives fans a portal back in time.
The last Bay Area Super Bowl was at Stanford Stadium in 1985, and it featured the San Francisco 49ers.
How times have changed.
In 1985, the median rent for a two-bedroom home in San Francisco was $750 a month. Now, that's more than $4,600.
The price for a Super Bowl ticket was $60. Now it's $850 at face value, but now you'll have to spend more than $4,900 to get one.
"In those 30 years, football has become our cultural obsession," said sports agent Leigh Steinberg.
He threw his first Super Bowl party in 1985. He remembers the game well.
"It was held in a stadium that had no luxury boxes, no premium seating, that was a college stadium," he said. "Today, it's a reward given to the most elaborate stadium."
It even comes with its own Super Bowl City.
