Barry Bonds Pursuing Claim That MLB Owners Conspired To Keep Him Out Of Baseball
SACRAMENTO (KHTK Sports 1140 AM) - Barry Bonds, the home run champion and former left fielder for the San Francisco Giants, is filing a grievance with Major League Baseball with a claim that MLB owners conspired to keep him from playing baseball after his historic 2007 season, in which he set the home run record.
The San Francisco Giants did not resign Bonds for the 2008 season. Becoming a free agent in October of 2007, no one offered to pick him up. Bonds ended the 2007 season with a .276 batting average, 132 walks (most in the MLB), 66 RBIs, and 75 runs scored. Bonds claims this conspiracy forced him to end his baseball career, citing collusion amongst the MLB owners.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported that through the collective bargaining agreement, Bonds must address his dispute with the MLB Players Association before a lawsuit can be filed.
CBS Sports reports that Bonds is able to move forward with his claim since the BALCO case has been resolved.
