'Bad Hatter Bandit' Sought In 3 Sacramento Area Bank Robberies

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man dubbed the "Bad Hatter Bandit" is responsible for three bank robberies in the Sacramento area over the past two months, according to the FBI.

The suspect robbed the Chase Bank at 3501 Del Paso Boulevard in Sacramento twice, on Nov. 29 and Jan. 29. He also robbed the Chase Bank at 1800 Douglas Boulevard, Roseville, on Jan. 10.

The Bad Hatter Bandit is described as black, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, with a small build. While his attire has changed frequently, the suspect arrived at each location with a leather folio and wearing one of a variety of black hats. A note or verbal demand for cash was issued in each of the robberies and the suspect indicated that he was armed.

A second black male standing 5-9 to 5-11 with an average build accompanied the primary suspect into the bank during the robbery in Sacramento on Tuesday. This second suspect approached the teller and told her that he had a weapon, the FBI said.

According to witnesses, additional accomplices have been seen in the Bad Hatter Bandit's getaway vehicles. All vehicles used in the robberies have been stolen and a different vehicle was used for each robbery, the FBI said. No weapon was displayed in any of the robberies.

The cases are being investigated by the Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force, FBI, Roseville Police Department and Sacramento Police Department.

Anyone with information on these robberies is asked to call the FBI in Sacramento at (916) 481-9110, Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP, Roseville Crime Stoppers at (916) 783-7867, Roseville Police Department or Sacramento Police Department.
