Auburn Preps For International Spotlight As AMGEN Tour Nears
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – There are only two days to go until the AMGEN Tour of California begins in South Lake Tahoe and winds its way through the state.
Towns and cities hosting the different stages of the race are getting ready, hanging banners and stores stocking up on wares. Most of the talk right now centers on the weather with snow forecast for the race start Sunday in South Lake Tahoe.
Dan Tebbs , owner of Victory Velo Bike Shop in Auburn says he wouldn't be surprised if stage one is shortened to keep the riders safe.
"They've got to take some precautions. The snow will definitely slow down the pace," said Tebbs "It's doable as long as it is not icy."
While the weather for the stage is questionable, businesses in Auburn, where stage three begins, are gearing up for the day.
Visitors will see bikes in storefronts all over town loaned out by Victory Velo Bike Shop. Cathy Bianchi owns "Gimmie Cake Too!" in Auburn. She says she's working overtime to make sure she's stocked up for race day on Tuesday. She says her sales that day could double or even triple.
"You name it, we'll have it in here," said Bianchi.
