Auburn Police Warning Residents About 'Water Bottle Bombs'

AUBURN (CBS13) – The Auburn Police Department is warning residents to be on the look out after a homemade "water bottle" bomb was found in the driveway of a home over the weekend.

Police say they were called to the 400 block of Riverview Drive after the residents spotted a suspicious water bottle in their driveway. It contained an unknown liquid and metal BBs. Residents said it had chemical odor.

The Placer County Sheriff's department's bomb experts were called out and confirmed it was a homemade explosive device.  They were able to remove it safely.

Police warn that these kinds of devices can cause severe injuries and say it is a crime to make or possess these types of devices.

Anyone who comes across a water bottle in their yard should use caution.

Auburn Police are still investigating Sunday's incident.
