Multiple People Arrested During Modesto George Floyd Protests
MODESTO (CBS13) – Multiple people were arrested as crowds protesting the death of George Floyd move through downtown Modesto on Sunday, authorities said.
The Modesto Police Department early on said the protesting was largely peaceful with a few instances of demonstrators throwing water bottles and other objects. That turned into things like rocks and cans being thrown at police, the department said.
Later on in the afternoon, multiple videos from the scene showed demonstrators being shoved to the ground by police.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Modesto police said the crowds largely dispersed and things were in a calmer state. Police said once the peaceful demonstrators left the scene, those willing to challenge law enforcement stayed behind, which resulted in multiple arrests.
Details on the arrests were not released.
