Fire At Antelope School Being Investigated As Arson
ANTELOPE (CBS13) - Sacramento Metro Fire crews determined a fire set at an Antelope school Sunday night was set by an arsonist.
The fire started in a classroom at a campus that houses Global Youth Charter High School and Antelope View Charter School at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fire crews say they found a broken window in the classroom and two different places where the fire started. Crews believe about 25 percent of the classroom was destroyed, totaling about $40,000 in damage.
"Anybody that has witnesses or knowledge about this fire, please contact the authorities. This is a very serious crime. The arsonist investigator has placed two different fire sets into the classroom through a broken window," said Sac Metro Fire Battalion Chief Gregory Casentini.
The school now faces a big cleanup job.
"It's senseless from the sense that it's going to cost us a lot of money to repair it. The kids are displaced. But I do want to complement the fire department and our maintenance staff for their quick response," said Center Unified School District Supervisor Scott Loehr. "It's sad when things like this happen because it does detract [sic] us from our other business that we're trying to accomplish."
Investigators are asking anyone who has any information on the fire to call their tip line at (916) 859-3775.
Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported the name of the school as Center Middle School.
