UPDATE: Citrus Heights Murder Suspect Identified In Disabled Man's Death
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – Citrus Heights Police Department detectives have announced an arrest in the murder of Christopher Sorgani.
Joshua Lowery will face a single charge of murder in the Sorgani's brutal death on a busy Citrus Heights street.
Lowery's first brush with the law came in 2000. He's faced assault, indecent exposure, burglary and petty theft charges.
Most recently, he appeared in a Sacramento County courtroom on Wednesday accused of failing to register as a sex offender.
Sorgani, who was physically disabled and couldn't defend himself, was found beaten along the 7700 block of Greenback Lane back on Oct. 23. He died four days later from injuries sustained in the attack.
A husband with a brilliant smile, Sorgani got his Master's degree in counseling working at the Employment Development Department. Coming home one night, he got off at his regular bust stop, but couldn't defend himself against what appears to be a random attack.
"We believe this was somebody passing by, that for whatever reason, saw Mr. Sorgani and took advantage of a disabled man," said Citrus Heights Det. Chad Morris.
Police initially looked at the attack as a possible robbery, but Chris was found with his wallet on him and still wearing his backpack with nothing disturbed.
Morris says they got a flood of tips, and eventually a witness came forward and helped them put together a sketch that was used to identify Lowery.
