Arrest Made In Hit-And-Run Of Firefighter In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a Thanksgiving day hit and run that left an off-duty firefighter with life-threatening injuries.

San Francisco police on Wednesday said Eduardo Esquivel is being held on felony charges of mayhem, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with great bodily injury.

Police said an officer recognized Esquivel from a restaurant surveillance video the department distributed after the incident.

Police believe Esquivel and the hit-and-run victim — a seasonal firefighter for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection — got into a fight before the incident on Thanksgiving at about 2:45 a.m. The firefighter's identity has not been released.

Both men left the restaurant and the victim was run over at a gas station, police said.
