Armed Robber Hits Store For Christmas Money

COLFAX, Calif. (CBS13) -- A man who robbed a convenience store in Colfax on Monday said he did it because he had also been robbed and needed money for Christmas.

The man walked inside the Weimar Country Store store on Paoli Lane at around 7 p.m. Monday night, went up to clerk, and showed him a handgun, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Dept. He then ordered the clerk to the front of the store where he told him and a female clerk to open the register and put the money in a bag.

After he bound the wrists of the clerks, he apologized and explained that he needed the money for Christmas and walked out of the store. Shortly thereafter, a silver Toyota pickup and a brown or tan Ford pickup with a red camper shell drove off.

The male clerk was able to free himself and called 911.

The suspect's face was covered during the robbery, but the clerks describe him as 6'5" tall, weighing 180 pounds. He had brownish-blond hair and is around 20-25 years old.

Anyone with information about the trucks or the suspect is urged to call Detective Bill Summers at (530) 889-7843. Anyone wishing to give information but remain anonymous could be eligible for a cash reward by calling Placer County Crime Stoppers at (800) 923-8191.
