Report: Apple Will Remove Headphone Jack From Next iPhone
SACRAMENTO (CBS Sacramento) - It's that time of year again, when pundits and prognosticators try to predict what will happen about a year from now.
No, we're not talking about the presidential election. We're talking about the people who fawn over Apple products and chase down rumors over what the next iPhone will be like.
The latest speculation, reports USA Today, is less concerned about what the iPhone 7 will have, but what it won't have: a headphone jack.
According to Japanese blog Macotakara, Apple will be ditching the 3.5 mm headphone jack that has been standard on iPhones and other devices for years.
The blog cites a reliable source who says Apple will be replacing the old EarPods with ones that plug in through the iPhone's Lightning port.
It will also be compatible with Bluetooth headphones, says the blog.
Removing the jack will allow engineers to make the next generation of iPhones much slimmer.
Apple will likely unveil the next iPhone in the fall of 2016. Until then, there will likely be more rumors and speculations about its features.
