Apartment Manager Implicated In Burglary At Complex
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A merchant marine on a trip overseas came home to find his apartment empty, and the apartment leasing manager is being charged in the crime.
When CBS13's Ron Jones tried to talk to a an office worker and the maintenance guy, they had nothing to say. But residents at the River Court Apartments at 1671 West El Camino Ave. in Natomas had plenty to say and so did police.
Leasing manager Sarah Rivera apparently had entry access to all the apartments in the complex. The one belonging to the merchant marine was completely wiped out while he was overseas.
"For him to have to experience that is crazy," James Anderson said of the victim, who lives below Anderson in the complex. "They pretty much wiped him clean. They took couches and TVs and candle holders and pictures off the wall."
Right down to the toilet paper. But there was no sign of forced entry. The apartment appeared to be secured. So how did the suspect get in?
And then a break in the case. Hundreds of anonymous letters were sent throughout the complex implicating Rivera, saying she gave her master key to someone to get into the apartment and steal the items.
Police didn't confirm that theory, but investigators did say Rivera had some of the victim's stolen property in her apartment.
She lost her job and went to jail.
"I just don't understand what came across her to do something like that because she's a very, very nice person," one resident said.
