Amtrak's Capitol Corridor ridership continues recovery to near pre-pandemic levels
SACRAMENTO – Amtrak's Capitol Corridor announced Tuesday that ridership has already surpassed more than one million passengers this year.
The 2024 ridership numbers are still lower than the pre-COVID-19 pandemic high of 1.8 million in 2019.
Still, Amtrak says train ridership has been going up since 2023 fiscal year, where the Capitol Corridor saw more than 921,000 passengers.
"As we continue to welcome back longtime riders and attract new ones, this milestone reflects the vital role Capitol Corridor plays in connecting communities across Northern California," said Robert Padgette, Managing Director of Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority, in a statement.
Capitol Corridor officials credit events at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara with helping boost ridership.
The Capitol Corridor route stretches from Auburn to San Jose.
A typical ride from Sacramento to the Santa Clara station on Capitol Corridor takes a little under three hours.
