American Fire Grows To Nearly 5,000 Acres; 35% Contained
PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) - The American Fire continues to burn in the heavily forested areas of Tahoe National Forest and is sending plumes of smoke throughout Placer County.
The fire has burned 4,958 acres and is only 35 percent contained with 873 fire personnel on scene.
The remote location and steep terrain are limiting crews' access to the fire from the ground.
The large amounts of smoke are creating significant air quality issues for the Sierra Foothills, Tahoe area, and Sacramento Valley. The Placer County Public Health Officer and Placer County Air Pollution Control District issued a joint Air Quality Advisory due to the vast amount of smoke.
The fire is burning 10 miles northeast of Foresthill, but the community is not being threatened.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
