Alpine Meadows Ski Patroller Injured In Triggered Avalanche
OLYMPIC VALLEY (CBS13) - A member of the Alpine Meadows Ski Patrol was injured in a triggered avalanche Monday morning.
The area was closed to the public when the avalanche was triggered by an explosive charge around 10:45 a.m. as part of a snow safety mission.
Team members were positioned in an area that has proven to be protected in the past. However, the triggered avalanche broke much higher and wider.
The patroller was recovered within minutes, and immediately had CPR performed on him. He was transported to Renown Hospital in Reno.
The patroller has 28 years of experience with Alpine Meadows' ski patrol and has routinely performed similar snow safety missions in the area.
