Alleged Drunk Driver Smashes Into Elk Grove Home

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – An Elk Grove couple is truly lucky to be alive this morning after an alleged drunk driver smashed his car into their home, ending up entirely inside their living room.

The homeowners were asleep when the accident happened. The car was driving on Emerald Drive when it left the road, drove through their front yard and decimated the front wall of their home.

"It sounded like an atomic bomb. I didn't know what had happened. I jumped up out of bed and saw them in the house," said homeowner Mike Reese. "Lucky I was asleep or I'd be a dead man right now. He's sitting right on top of my couch."

The driver of the reportedly tried to run from the accident, but was found a short time later. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officers say the suspect will be charged with driving under the influence.

His passenger was detained and questioned.
