Aide Accused Of Sex With Special Needs Student
A Marysville School District teacher's aide has been arrested after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a special needs student she had known for years.
Elizabeth Wallis, 35, was taken into custody Wednesday evening after her family suspected the relationship between her and the alleged victim had taken an inappropriate turn.
Wallis had taught the 17-year-old boy when he was a student at Yuba Gardens School in Olivehurst in the eighth grade but went too far in the past two months, according to investigators.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Department began investigating after Wallis' family reported the relationship. The alleged sexual acts took place off-campus, authorities said.
The victim's mother said she knew Wallis well and trusted her before learning of the allegations.
"The lady was my friend, a very close friend. So I thought," said the victim's mother. "It's horrible. I can't believe it. I can't even think."
The victim's mother said she is concerned about the well-being of her son and said Wallis took advantage of him for her own selfish reasons.
"How dare that woman do that to my child?" she said. "He's an ED student, she's a teacher's aide, she knows better. And now, he's in love with her."
The Marysville School District has been notified of Wallis' arrest. Investigators said they don't believe there are any other victims.
Wallis is facing charges of unlawful sex with a minor and oral copulation.
