Agents Raid Huge Pot Growing Operation In Sacramento County
SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) -– Agents from the Department of Justice, with help from Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies, raided a major pot growing operation in southern Sacramento County on Wednesday morning.
The agents and deputies descended on an area near 1624 Hood-Franklin Boulevard after getting tipped about a pot grow in the area. They found more than 1,000 plants with a street value of about $1 million.
When they arrived, the suspects, Mexican nationals, ran, but five of the seven have been arrested.
Investigators also found a stash of guns and a bullet-proof vest at the site, which is in a rural area near Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Elk Grove.
A sheriff's helicopter was used in the raid, and officers used a loud speaker on the helicopter to try and communicate with the suspects in Spanish.
Some of the men were living under a fig tree where food, tooth brushes, soap and other items were found, CBS13's Ben Sosenko reports.
