Activists Protesting GMOs At Woodland Monsanto
WOODLAND (CBS13) – Activists gathered outside of Monsanto in Woodland on Friday, protesting against genetically modified foods.
Activists are targeting Monsanto in a series of 400 demonstrations across the country, claiming the company's GMOs are poisoning the planet and the people consuming the foods, according to a press release. They claim GMOs produced by Monsanto have been linked to infertility, cancer, autoimmune diseases and food allergies.
"It's better to get out and stand up for what you believe in than to turn a blind eye to it; because, if you turn a blind eye to it, then you're doing nothing more than advocating for them," protester Anthony Harling said.
The protest at the Woodland facility has been peaceful as activists have mostly been yelling at employees coming into work.
A rally is planned for Saturday at the north side of the State Capitol. According to the press release, a similar protest held in May drew about 1,000 people.
In a statement issued to CBS13, Monsanto Corporate Affairs Director Tom Helscher said the company is not sure who is protesting or why they are doing so.
No arrests have been made.
