A How-To Guide to Build Your 49ers Fan Tailgating Outfit
No self-respecting San Francisco 49ers fan would be caught tailgating at Candlestick Park without some scarlet red and metallic gold garb. Here are some wardrobe suggestions for 49ers tailgaters that would have made Tony Morabito proud.
Jersey
Want to go retro? Get a Joe Montana, Steve Young or Jerry Rice jersey. If you favor a modern-day look, buy a Colin Kaepernick jersey. If you're hacked off about the quarterback switch, then throw your support behind Alex Smith.
Hat
Merchants sell a variety of 49ers caps, from vintage to modern. How about a 49ers ski hat? Heck, there are Niners cowboy hats, Niners beanies and even a Niners "jester" hat. You've got plenty of options to cover your head and show your 49ers pride.
Face paint
If you really want to exhibit your 49ers spirit, slap on some red and gold face paint. You can go mild (with dabs here and there) or wild (with a full mask). For women, "face paint" could simply translate into some red and gold makeup.
Shoes
Tennis shoes, boots, flip-flops -- your feet can do the talking when it comes to displaying your 49ers spirit. While women enjoy more shoe selections than men, there are plenty of choices for both genders.
Socks
Aside from keeping your feet warm, 49ers socks give you yet another way to jazz up your game-day outfit. Many of them come in red-and-gold stripes or with logos. For women, several types of socks are available in pink.
Outerwear
Want to really stand out? Put on a satin 49ers jacket in red or gold. Want to avoid being too flashy? Go classic with a suede bomber jacket or a varsity jacket. Whatever you pick, you can ward off the chilly wind from the bay in jackets, coats, sweatshirts and more.
Tattoos
We're not talking about permanent ink here. Instead, you can apply temporary 49ers tattoos just for game day. However, if you do want to go the permanent route, any number of tattoo artists can come up with 49ers designs. Tatted QB Colin Kaepernick might be able to give you a recommendation.
Pins
Pins can be fun to collect and fun to wear. There is an assortment of traditional pins as well as some not-so-traditional ones. For example, female tailgaters can shine with bling pins that spell out "49ers" in rhinestones.
Nail art
Female tailgaters can apply temporary tattoos to their nails or can paint their nails with scarlet and gold polish. Male tailgaters could dress up their nails, too, but they might get some funny looks from fellow tailgaters.
Shorts and sweats
Depending on the weather, you can slip on shorts or sweats that carry the 49ers colors and logo. Sure, you can wear regular blue jeans, but where's the fun and creativity in that?
