8 Placer High Teens Injured After SUV Flips On I-80
AUBURN (CBS13) - Eight Placer High School students were injured after the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer they were in rolled over Friday afternoon on eastbound I-80.
"I couldn't believe it honestly. I couldn't believe that it happened," said Brendan Axelbaum, a friend of one of the victim.
Around 12:50 p.m., the SUV was reportedly merging on to I-80 from Highway 49 when it collided with the right side of a Freightliner tractor-trailer. The SUV then hit a guard rail, overturned, and ended up in the roadway.
Two of the teen passengers were not wearing seat belts reported CHP.
Andrew Carducci was partially ejected from the SUV, breaking his skull. He was transported by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
The 17-year-old female driver sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Sutter Roseville with three other passengers.
"At first there was rumors going around saying he was in really bad condition, life support and all this," said Brandon Sanchez, Carducci's friend.
Two were taken to Auburn Faith Hospital with minor injuries, and two males were treated on scene and released.
The driver of the trailer was unharmed.
The CHP were still investigating why the driver lost control of the SUV, but alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
