50 Alpacas Abandoned On Clements Woman's Property

CLEMENTS (CBS13) -- A total of 50 alpacas were dumped on one woman's property. But, what began as an act of kindness has now turned into a nightmare.

That woman is now dealing with 50 farm animals that she can no longer afford to take care of.

"They kind of give you a peaceful feeling when you watch them," says Sheryl Hudson.

But, Hudson says she is at peace no longer over what to do with the alpaca on her property.

"They're not mine and I'm stuck," she says.

It was back in January when an alpaca dealer she knows asked her to house the herd temporarily.

"For just two months. She was supposed to come out and feed them, supply the hay and take care of them," Hudson explains.

But Hudson says that never happened, and now six months later this llama look- alikes are still there and the dealer is now where to be found.

"Animal control and the D.A. is telling me it's a civil issue and I need to hire an attorney to try and figure out what to do with these animals because they're not mine," Hudson said.

And in the meantime, Hudson has shelled out more than $2,000 to keep the more than 50 alive.

"I've done my best.  Feeding them has cost me about $30 to $40 a day," she says.

But her money is running out and these alpacas are now suffering.

"They need to be sheared, they need dental work, they need their shots and they need their feet done."

With the recent high temperatures the clock is ticking, and Hudson says that the San Joaquin animal control isn't helping. So now Hudson is begging.

"I would just like to find these animals good homes that people will love and enjoy them."
