49ers CEO Jed York: Levi's Stadium Can Hold Two Teams
The situation right now for the Oakland Raiders is a mess. It looks like the Raiders will play next year in Oakland but anything after that is anyone's guess. The team has spent the last 21 seasons in Oakland but next year is up in the air. Maybe they'll play in Oakland, maybe they'll play in Los Angeles and now, maybe they'll play in Santa Clara.
Recently 49ers CEO, Jed York, said that the Raiders could share the stadium with them.
According to a tweet from Chris Law, York said: "It's up to the Raiders to decide what they want to do. We built the stadium in Santa Clara to hold two teams"
Now, on the surface that sounds like a clear solution. Hooray! The team is saved! Then again, nothing is ever that simple.
Remember that the 49ers, while willing to share the stadium, will be the main tenants. The 49ers have their Hall of Fame in the stadium and everything there is centered on the 49ers. The Raiders will essentially be guests in their own stadium. Egos are a big thing and that's not going to be brushed under the rug.
Then again, maybe they decide this is an acceptable short term option before a better option is agreed upon down the line. Remember that the Golden State Warriors play right next door to the Raiders and they'll be leaving by the start of the 2019-2020 season. It would be crushing to lose both Oakland based team in the span of three years.
Maybe the Raiders decide to share the stadium with the 49ers for a short-term in the same vain as the Minnesota Vikings did when they shared the University of Minnesota's stadium. Whatever they decide look for this to continue over the next year or so.
