49er-Steelers Game Delayed By Power Outage

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The start of the San Francisco 49ers-Pittsburgh Steelers "Monday Night Football" game has been delayed by a power outage at aging Candlestick Park.

The power throughout the stadium went off about 25 minutes before the scheduled kickoff of 5:40 local time. The public address system stopped working and fans were left in the dark until an emergency light came on in the far corner of the stadium.

A 49ers team spokesman said transformers appeared to fail outside the stadium. City engineers were working to switch the power over to the backup power supply.

The power first started to come back on in the press box and the scoreboard ring around the stadium about 15 minutes later, drawing cheers from Steelers and 49ers fans.

The game was expected to start at about 6 p.m.
