49ers Faithful Now Turns Attention To Conquering Giants
San Francisco 49ers fans are still celebrating after a thrilling 36-32 win over the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, and Sunday brought some more good news: another home game at Candlestick Park.
Now it's time to bring on the G-men after New York's stunning upset over the top-seeded Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. That means the 49ers will host the Giants on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.
"We don't have to play the Packers. We already beat the Giants. We're playing with home field advantage, sweet breeze on to the Super Bowl, baby," 49ers fan Nickoles Gibbs said. "That's what I think."
This new generation of 49ers is just one win away from returning to the glory days of the 1980s and '90s.
In 1982 during Super Bowl XVI, now Auburn resident Dan Bunz made one of the most famous goal line stops in NFL history. He was part of the Niner championship legacy. The linebacker helped put the final nail in the Cincinnati Bengals' coffin, solidifying their first Super Bowl appearance and win.
He sees some similarities in today's new 49ers.
Bunz says back in the day coaching genius Bill Walsh capitalized on the strengths of their players, and Bunz believes coach Jim Harbaugh is using the same strategy.
It's a strategy that could get them past New York and ultimately to their sixth Lombardi Trophy.
"To win the game with Walsh we had a great defense, but you have to have a very creative offense and Harbaugh has that."
The NFC Championship Game will be back at the 'Stick on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
