4.1 Quake Hits Off Southern California Coast

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — A magnitude-4.1 earthquake has struck the Channel Islands region about 70 miles off the Southern California coast.

A U.S. Geological Survey computer generated report says Tuesday's 6:19 a.m. quake was centered four miles southeast of San Nicolas Island.

The 23-square-mile island, which is owned by the Navy and used as a weapons testing area, is about 70 miles south-southwest of Oxnard and is part of Ventura County.
