3 People In Custody After Early Morning Standoff
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Three people who were barricaded inside of an Elk Grove home following a shooting are now in police custody.
At around 3 a.m., a tow truck went to Mapleview Way to repossess a vehicle parked at one of the homes, say police. A man living at the home noticed the activity, came out and allegedly fired gunshots into the air and went back inside the home.
"The homeowner came out and confronted the repo driver, fired a shot in the air, and brandished a handgun," said Elk Grove police Officer Chris Trimm. "At this point, the repo driver stepped out, backed out of the area, and the individual that fired the shot fled in the vehicle attempted to be repossessed."
Police arrived at the home a little later and ordered the man to come out, but he refused. After a standoff lasting three hours, the man told police he had to get dressed and had to prepare to come out. He finally came out with his hands raised and surrendered.
"Both voluntarily stayed in the home; this was not a hostage situation," said Trimm.
A woman and a teenage girl who were also in the home during the standoff, and refused to come out voluntarily, also surrendered.
Officers searched the home with help from a K-9, but were unable to find any other residents.
Several neighbors were evacuated during the standoff as a precaution.
Police are still searching for the weapon, and the car that was attempted to be repossessed. Investigators believe the suspect parked the car somewhere off his property, and walked back to the home.
