3 Olivehurst Men Face Federal Hate Crime Charges In 2011 Attack
LINDA (AP) — Three Yuba County men accused of beating a white man and black woman in a racially motivated attack are facing federal charges for the 2011 assault.
A grand jury indictment unsealed last week charges 27-year-old Perry Sylvester Jackson, 28-year-old Billy James Hammett and 32-year-old Anthony Merrell Tyler, all of Olivehurst, with one count of conspiracy and two counts of hate crimes causing bodily injury to the couple.
Last week, FBI agents arrested the trio, all of whom pleaded not guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dale Drozd.
Federal prosecutors say the April 18 late-night attack at the Full Stop Market in Linda was racially motivated.
Drozd ordered Jackson and Hammett to be held without bail. Tyler was released on a $150,000 bond.
