3 Killed In SoCal Plane Crash

BARSTOW, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say three people have been killed in the crash of a small plane that plowed into a hillside near the Barstow airport.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire says the plane went down about 12:40 p.m. Sunday in a rugged area just off of Interstate 40, about 12 miles from Barstow.

She says three people have been confirmed dead. Their identities were not immediately available.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane is believed to be a Cessna 210 that was heading from John Wayne Airport in Orange County to Henderson Executive Airport in Nevada.

Wiltshire says the plane, which burst into flames, crashed in a rugged area not immediately accessible to vehicles.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
