3 arrested in Stanislaus County after armed robbery leads to car chase
An armed robbery in Stanislaus County led to a nearly 30-minute car chase on Monday afternoon, the sheriff's office said.
Around 12:53 p.m., a man reported that three people robbed him, two of them pointing guns at him. The sheriff's office said the victim was robbed of his personal belongings and the keys to his 2010 Volkswagen Beetle.
Deputies began searching the area and found the car being driven westbound on Yosemite Boulevard, near Claus Road.
The sheriff's office said they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and led them on a nearly 30-minute chase through Modesto and Empire.
According to the sheriff's office, they recovered two handguns near Celeste Drive in Modesto, which were thrown out of the car during the chase.
One of the suspects allegedly got out of the car and tried to run from deputies, near Edgebrook Drive and Colfax Avenue. The sheriff's office said he was arrested and identified him as 36-year-old Jonathan Witt.
Deputies were able to spike the car's tires twice, and the sheriff's office said the suspect then crashed into a deputy's patrol car.
The two suspects were arrested and identified as 33-year-old Benjamin Witt and 23-year-old Nathan Green, the sheriff's office said.
According to the sheriff's office, Green was known to them and had an arrest warrant out for him in connection to felony domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon charge.
Jonathan Witt was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime, vehicle theft, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, resisting arrest, and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Benjamin Witt was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime.
Green was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime, vehicle theft, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, and a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
All three suspects were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.
