3.7 Magnitude Quake Rattles California-Nevada Border

MARKLEEVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A small earthquake has rumbled in a remote mountain area along the California-Nevada border.

A U.S. Geological Survey computer generated report says the magnitude-3.7 quake struck at 1:39 a.m. Monday and was centered 18 miles southeast of Markleeville, an Alpine County hamlet near South Lake Tahoe.

On Sunday in Southern California, a magnitude-3.1 quake shook the desert area near the Salton Sea. The 5:01 p.m. quake was centered close to Obsidian Butte, about 27 miles from El Centro.
