UPDATED: Citrus Heights Suspect Shot After Struggle With Officers

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – A Thursday morning search for an armed man in Citrus Heights has ended with the suspect being shot by officers.

Police closed Sunrise Boulevard and Oak Avenue as they searched for a man allegedly armed with a knife, who entered a rehabilitation group home in the 7900 block of Oak Avenue just after 9 a.m.

The suspect allegedly fled to another home, forcing the residents to evacuate.

As police were called out to the scene, the suspect reportedly ran to an empty tree lot. After a struggle with officers, shots were fired and the suspect was hit, according to authorities.

The suspect is alive. The extent of his injuries are not known, but he was taken into surgery.

The search for the suspect forced two schools and one business to shutdown.

Sunrise Tech Center, an afternoon adult education program, cancelled its classes. No students were at the school at the time because classes begin at noon.

Sunrise Early Child Education, a preschool program with about 40 students, was also on lockdown. However, parents have been able to pick up their children.

Molina Medical Center on Sunrise Boulevard is also on lockdown at this time.

Sunrise Boulevard was reopening around 2 p.m.
