2 Workers Injured By Metal Dropped From Crane
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — West Sacramento police say two construction workers were hurt when a piece of metal fell from a crane and struck them.
The workers were subcontracted through Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and were laying pipeline when the incident occurred around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Police Lt. Tod Sockman says a chain on the crane slipped. The metal hit one of the workers in the head. The other was struck in the leg.
They are expected to survive although their injuries are described as critical.
Sockman says state officials will investigate what caused the metal to fall. He did not know how much it weighed, but said it was corrugated steel used to support the trench that was being dug.
