2 People Shot At Popular Bowling Alley In Elk Grove; Both Expected To Survive
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Two people were shot outside of a popular Elk Grove bowling alley on Sunday morning, but are expected to survive.
"I was really shocked. I thought this was a really good area and safe. I didn't think that anything like that would happen," said a woman at the alley.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of Pins N Strikes Family Entertainment Center at 3443 Laguna Boulevard. Police have not identified any suspects, nor have they established a motive for the shooting.
On June 5, 2011, Seth Parker was badly beaten by Joel Olivarez, who had been shouting homophobic slurs at him. Parker suffered multiple fractures around his eye and nerve damage. The assault sparked anti-hate protests at the state capitol.
Joel Olivarez was eventually arrested on aggravated battery charges and later pleaded guilty.
Pins N Strikes has hired extra security and posted signs that deter gangs and others causing trouble from showing up.
"The crowd that hangs out here Friday and Saturday nights, gets a little bit dicey," said a bowler.
After the hate crime beating a couple years ago and the shooting yesterday, some bowlers are only showing up here during the day.
"Every day there's somebody out there getting stabbed or shot or something. I just don't bowl at night" said a bowler.
