2 Injured In Explosion At Vallejo High School
VALLEJO (CBS13) – An explosion at Vallejo High School sent two staff members to the hospital, Vallejo Fire says.
According to officials, the explosion happened around 8:30 a.m. Friday inside a room that had been occasionally used as a photo lab. At the time, workers were re-lighting a pilot that had been shut off after it ruptured during the Napa Quake on August 24.
PG&E spokeswoman Brittany McKannay said the Vallejo Fire Department called PG&E between 8 and 8:30 a.m. to shut off the gas line to the school, fire officials said.
Both of the employees had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Vallejo Fire reports. One sustained serious burns, according to a statement from the school superintendent. The other suffered lesser injuries.
The school was evacuated due to the explosion, but students have since returned to class. No students were in the building where the explosion happened.
PG&E shut off the gas and electricity to the school after today's incident. Power has since been restored, but the gas will remain off in the meantime.
Students and faculty have been given the all-clear to go back inside the school.
