2 Injured After Man Allegedly Tried To Run Over 7 People In Yard
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man was arrested after allegedly trying to run over several people at a home in West Sacramento.
That man seriously hurt two people then barricaded himself in his own home, forcing SWAT to come out and lock down the neighborhood, say police.
Fifty-one-year-old Edwin Morais was arrested at his home Saturday after police say he drove his own car through a fence, trying to run over seven people. Two of the victims were sent to the hospital.
"I tried to jump over the fence but it caught me," said Robert Lee, a victim.
Lee got tangled in a metal fence and was dragged into the street. He feared he would get impaled by a metal fence pole.
People at the home on Devon Avenue say they know Morais. They say he came over uninvited and started to argue with them.
Witnesses say that's when he got back into his truck, collided with several cars on the street and then headed towards several people standing in the yard.
Police later found Morais' truck parked in his driveway off Lemon Tree Road. They surrounded the home but he refused to come out.
"It's incredibly concerning for all of us -- all of us that live in this neighborhood," said one resident.
After a couple hours, SWAT showed up and Morais finally gave up.
"None of the SWAT had to be used to bring him in. He came out on his own free will," said Lt. Tod Stockman.
Meanwhile, people back at the home believe Morais was intoxicated and had a gun, but they say they still aren't sure what made him so angry.
"I hope he gets some help; he needs some help for sure," said Lee.
One man is still in the hospital.
Morais was booked into Yolo County Jail and is charged with seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
