$2.4 Million Could Get You A Block Of Downtown Tracy
TRACY (CBS13) — An entire city block up for sale in Tracy's downtown has some business owners in limbo.
Times are changing in Tracy. There's a new McDonald's down the street, a new city hall, a new high school, a renovated downtown, and of course Amazon is coming on.
And before long a block that is a tribute to the way things used to be could have a very new look as well.
At Johnny's Diner and Creamery, Johnny's family does the cooking. And Johnny?
"I'm the delivery man they don't let me cook," said Johnny Machuca. "They say I chit chat too much."
He loves his customers, the location and the nostalgia.
"If we could do carhops with roller skates, we'd be there."
But there's just one thing.
"The bad part is, we don't know how long we're gonna be here."
It could be as little as a year, maybe two.
The family owns almost the entire city block and they've put it up for sale for a hefty $2.4 million.
Real estate broker Byron Alvarez is handling the sale that's unusual, to say the least.
"I've been in real estate 33 years, and I've never had a whole city block for sale.
Businesses on the block aren't sure what'll happen once the property's sold.
Alvarez says their two-year leases will be honored, but after that, it's anyone's guess.
What typically happens, he says, is a developer puts up a strip mall, or a single restaurant comes in. That would mean the end of the road for businesses here now.
The real-estate broker says he's in talks with an interested party he wouldn't name. he also said he's had an offer that didn't work out.
